University of New Mexico offensive lineman Teton Saltes recognized for dedication on and off the field

Dart and our SOLO brand congratulate University of New Mexico offensive lineman Teton Saltes on his selection as the 2020 recipient of The Wuerffel Trophy – college football's premier award for community service.

Dart and the SOLO brand has served for the last five years as a corporate partner for the award, which was established by 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida and honors college athletes who’ve made significant contributions on and off the field.

“Dart and SOLO are proud to support the Wuerffel Trophy because its criteria closely align with our commitment to giving back to local communities and encouraging volunteerism," said Kevin Myers, Dart's Vice President-Sales/US Consumer Products. “We join the selection committee in saluting Teton on his devotion to supporting mental health initiatives and other causes in his community and around the world.”

Saltes, a senior from Albuquerque, NM, graduated with an undergraduate degree in political science and is enrolled in law school. He’s been a Lobo Scholar-Athlete and a two-time member of the Mountain West All-Academic team. A three-year starter on the Lobos’ offensive line, Saltes was Honorable Mention All-Conference in 2019 and named to the 2020 Outland Trophy Watch list. A two-time Wuerffel Trophy semifinalist, Saltes has also been named the 2020 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Captain.

He volunteers in Native American communities in both New Mexico and South Dakota and has participated in initiatives including suicide awareness and prevention, a BEAR (Be Excited About Reading) literacy program, Tree of Life (youth mentoring), Save the Children and raising funds for school supplies.

Saltes also lobbied the New Mexico Legislature on behalf of mental health funding for Division I athletes, resulting in the state allocating $500,000 for behavioral and mental health of student-athletes. Early in the pandemic, he returned to South Dakota to assist those on the reservation by distributing food, medical supplies and comfort to the many in need. Outside the US, Saltes has worked with underprivileged children in rural Cambodia and Uganda.

As part of Dart’s sponsorship of the trophy, our Solo brand is promoting the Wuerffel Trophy in eye-catching product displays in numerous retail stores throughout the nation. The displays feature customized products in 11 different color combinations that match the colors of local teams and festively contribute to game-day gatherings.
